beautiful stranger

first piece on here, cut me some slack :p pairing: suga x reader warnings: none really genre: fluff, friends to lovers, high school romance inspired by beautiful stranger by laufey(go figure).

she was just sitting there like any ordinary girl on her commute back home, so why was suga so affixed on her. she was reading a book, her dark, curly hair falling out of its place behind her ear. everytime she slid strands of it away from her face, suga felt his ears turn red- his heart somehow jumping a beat. she looked up, softly glancing at him. blushing, he looked away after flashing a smile at her.

the next day, she was sitting at the same spot with a different book this time. had she finished reading a whole book in a day? the day after that, she walked in with a bag of groceries. she looked a bit cold in her school uniform, regardless of the fact that it was the same one he had on.

he finally saw her at school when walking with daichi and asahi during break time. she was talking with her friend, looking mildly annoyed. she glanced in his direction, giving him the most beautiful smile known to man. that's when he knew he was down bad for this girl he didn't even know the name of.

suga snapped out of his daze at daichi's comment. "you're looking at her with heart eyes, suga. stop drooling."

"she's cute, go ask her out!" asahi encouraged, head tilting towards the mystery girl his friend seemed so enamored by.

suga blushed, scratching the back of his neck. "no way, i don't even know her name. i can't just ask her out without getting to know her."

daichi snickered, "ohh, quite the romantic, aren't you?"

was he?

safe to say he looked straight out of a romance book.

his light gray hair, kind face, and deep hazel eyes were enough to get your attention. you looked up from your book- which you were using as a distraction- to find his eyes looking in your direction. you could've sworn you saw him blush before he looked away, leaving you flustered and confused.

the familiar ring of the bus stopping prompted you to stop staring and get up from your seat. as you walked out, you noticed him doing the same thing. he lived in your neighborhood? did he go to your school?

and he did. you found him walking with two other guys, one you knew as the volleyball team's captain. was her new bus crush part of the team? how have you never noticed after going to like three games?

your friend whistled beside you. "is that the guy? your 'straight out of a book' man?"

you gave a sharp glare, warning to quiet down as if he could hear them across the hallway. "yes, so please don't embarrass me." your friend simply nodded, linking her arm with yours. you glanced at him again, smiling when you met his eyes.

your friend squealed, almost jumping at the interaction. "i think he blushed-"

"shut up!" you nudged her slightly. you were basically beside the trio when your friend nudged you back. much harder.

you stumbled into the gray-haired student, hyper-aware of his hands that held you steady. "oh my gosh- i'm so sorry, are you okay?"

suga held back a groan, trying to ignore the pain of your heel stepping into his toe. "yeah, no problem- don't worry." daichi and asahi were beside him, hiding their laugh and refusing to even lend a hand.

the commotion settled once you regained your balance, shooting knives at y/f/n through your eyes. after what seemed like endless apologies, you turned to leave, but your friend held you back.

"oh! i forgot, what are your names?"

daichi, asahi, and suga quickly introduced themselves as members of the Karasuno volleyball team. despite the running conversation, your attention was fixed on suga's face.

the bell rang, instilling a panic in the group in fear of an unnecessary tardy. with a couple waves, everyone went to their respective classes.

sugawara koshi, huh?

"y/n!!"

you smiled, waving at suga with your free hand. "suga! you made it just in time."

"thanks for waiting," he huffed out, warm breath spreading through the cold air. "and the book! thank you, thank you." you let out a laugh as the two of you got on the bus, trying to ignore the flutter in your stomach as suga brushed your hand when taking the book from you.

ever since the hallway incident (as your dear friend liked to call it), you've grown closer to suga and the other third years on the volleyball team. it was easy to be friends with them, being in the same year and some of the same classes. you grew to like your frienship with them- you quickly grew fond of them. you and your friend went to their games more often, studied together, and even ate lunch together at school. you didn't want to lose that bond and mess anything up.

you sighed, ignoring your thoughts and focusing on suga's rant about one of the characters in the book you let him borrow. you tried to ignore the subtle heat that went up to your ear when you made eye contact. you wondered if he felt the same way too.

innocent crush on the morning commute.

suga felt like he could melt into a puddle everytime your eyes sparkled when you agreed with his opinions on the character. he noticed how you spoke faster, almost in a hurry, when you were excited. you would use your hands more, as if you're trying to speak with your body entire body. he found all the small habits adorable. this fuzzy feeling he kept having when you were around-- he wanted it to stay. suga wanted to confess this to you; he just didn't know how to say it or when or where. all he knows is that he wants it to be special.

a fairytale moment has to occur.

"it feels like i'm in a studio ghilbli movie or something," you comment, strolling down the scenic road to the nearby store. you made this stroll with suga part of your routine- the two of you would go there every thursday, the only day without his long volleyball practice.

suga hummed in response, weirdly engrossed in his thoughts. he seemed distant today and you wondered what was wrong. suga has never been extremely reserved about his feelings, he openly communicated if he was feeling tired or wasn't in the mood to talk. you admired that about him. but today, he gave you curt responses.

you started noticing how distressed he seemed when you both sat down on the bench in front of the store. suga's legs kept bouncing up and down, plus he merely mumbled a thank you when you went out of your way to buy his favorites. you had an idea of what it could be, a smile creeping its way into your face.

you heard from a friendly bird that suga liked you. the news took you by surprise, a pleasant one at that. you didn't expect him to like you back. after hearing that, you immediately wanted to go to him, but the 'friend' said suga would confess when he gets the chance to alone with her. you figured the time was now.

you could see him getting lost in thought and decided you'd had enough. "koshi, you know you're acting strange."

he took a breath, struggling to find his voice. "uh- yeah, sorry. i just-" another deep breath.

"whoa, calm down. take your time, you can tell me when you want,"

suga smiled, feeling stupid for feeling so nervous in the first place. daichi and asahi made confessing sound so scary, which is ridiculous to even think about considering neither of them had ever done the bit. this was you, the person that listened to everything he had to say without judgement. ennoshita even confirmed you liked him back, so why was he shying away?

"alright, since you asked so nicely," suga started, turning to face you. "ever since i saw you in the seat of the bus months ago, i haven't been able to get you out of my mind. you're just running around in here, rent-free and all." he chuckled lightly, glancing up to meet your eyes.

you knew your face was red, and it wasn't because of the cold, winter air. suga complimented your appearance quite often, but it was nothing like this. you held your breath, trying to reel in your sanity.

"i guess- what i really want to say is... i really like you. honestly, i think it's more than that." suga looked directly into your eyes while saying the next phrase, pupils dilating and his breath hot in the brisk winter breeze. "i've fallen in love with you."

you're driven speechless. not even the bus coming to a stop a couple feet away from your could break you from your daze. you felt blood rush to your cheeks and to the tip of your ears, eyes slightly tearing up from the cold air. "i- um-"

suga's heart was pounding in his chest. "you... please respond, i'm going to explode if you don't say anything."

you laughed at that- suga looked desperate. "i just didn't expect a confession right now. 'thought you'd take a while."

you watched as realization crept onto his face. "you knew?" you nodded, trying not to laugh at his expression. "wha- how did- who told you?!"

"well, technically y/f/n did. i didn't believe it at first, but i started noticing everything she mentioned about you. you know your ears turn red when our hands brush?" suga blushed at that, not exactly liking the fact that he was being exposed. "nishinoya confirmed it actually."

suga tilted his head, "noya? what did he do?"

"scream that you liked me," you respond, causing a fit of laughter. the two of you calm down, simply staring at each other and your hands that somehow interlinked in the midst of the situation.

"wait so... do you feel the same way or no?" suga asked, clearly wanting a definite answer.

"isn't holding your hand enough to say i feel the same?" he simply let out a sigh, a relieved one at that. "so will you go out with me?"

suga's head shot up, "that's my line!"

"answer the question, koshi."

"of course i will! i've been waiting for this day since i bumped into you at school!"

the two of you just sit there for a while, enjoying each other's company. the snow looked pretty, the wind seemed to be singing, and the moment was magical. you finish up the snacks you bought, chatting about some new released songs.

"beautiful stranger is your favorite right now?" suga looked at you quizzically.

you shrugged, "well, yeah. it reminds me of you."

he blushed, soon realizing you could easily get him flustered even though you were now his girlfriend. "how can you say that so effortlessly?"

"what do you mean? it's true!" you laugh, taking in his flushed face.

"you were my beautiful stranger from day one."
